Since July 15, 2016, Turkey is in a state of statumania which is nationalistic and patriotic again. Almost in every city of Turkey, a monument dedicated to the martyrs of the coup d'etat or directly to the ideology of AKP, is being constructed. Some of them are proud of being the first, while others praise themselves on their size. However, this intense and fast monument construction continues simultaneously with the removal and destruction of Kurdish national monuments and mnemonic practices. In addition to these, monuments of M.K.Atatürk continue to be attacked by civilians as usual since X (ilk saldırı ne zaman?) and video of a small child kissing the head of an Atatürk bust is on the news as a counter-performance. In an era of completely new propaganda techniques, an era of biopolitical subjectivisation, where people are interpellated through digital images in social media; a physical mnemonic device from 19th seems outdated and dysfunctional. However historical events show us the opposite. As Anderson ( ) remarks "A society that suddenly wants to raise statues is a changing society". In the first chapter, I will summarize the history and transformation of public statues in Turkey. In the second chapter I will show you a catalogue of the de/constructed monuments in Turkey after July 15, 2016 coup d'etat, analyse their iconologies and locate in the history of public monuments of Turkey.

Until 2000, theses on monuments in Turkey are mainly focused on the archaeological/architectural heritage of Turkey in terms of restoration and historicization of urban artefacts or as the analysis of an artwork. A quick search on CoHE (Council of Higher Education) database shows that the terms "public monument" and "collective memory" start to appear only after 2000 in theses which problematize the construction of a national/collective memory and/or martyrdom through monumentalization of war and war heroes (Yalım, 2001; Wilson, 2007; Tekiner, 2008; Yılmaz, 2008; Ünal, 2010; Bobbit, 2011; Boran, 2011; Demirci, 2011; Gülpınar, 2012; Şengünalp, 2013; Kızılırmak, 2014; Abdullah, 2016; Baydemir, 2016).
